A real adventure over 6 Days / 5 Nights from Havana and through the Cuban countryside in 4X4 vehicles and American cars ending with relaxing at Varadero beach resort.Day 1: Welcome to Havana
Personalized welcome at Havana airport and transfer by air-conditioned tour bus to your hotel. A welcome cocktail will be served to you around the swimming pool of the hotel. Your pieces of luggage will be placed directly in your rooms. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Tour Guide service.
Day 2: Havana/Vinales (160 km - 2 1/2hr to 3hr road trip)
After breakfast, the participants will meet in the lobby with their tour guides where they will be given a briefing on the activities programmed for the day. Luggage will be taken by bus to Los Jazmines Hotel in Viñales. Departure in Chevrolet, Cadillac, Ford, Plymouth and other marvels of American mechanics of the 50’s, Chauffeur driven (from 4 to 5 passengers by vehicle). Visit to two of the following Cigar Factories: Romeo y Julieta, Rey del Mundo, H.Upmann or La Corona (Maximum 25 pax at factory). Departure in 4 convoys for Viñales. Arrival at the Prehistoric Mural. Lunch and traditional Cuban music by a group of musicians. The guides will go around the tables during lunch to take the enrollments for the afternoon activities: 1/2 of the group for the underground Santo Tomas Cave and 1/2 of the group for the oxen-drawn chariots.
Oxen-drawn Chariots: 2 convoys of chariots for 2 different trips to discover the landscape and the tobacco plantations.
A walk, to discover a tobacco drying barn and get to know other plantations like malanga (taro) and yucca. The walk lasts for about 2hrs. The chariots depart from the Prehistoric Mural and cross the valley following two paths leading to Los Jazmines Hotel. The last 20 minutes, on foot, to reach the hotel.
Underground cave of Santo Tomas. Departure by car in convoy from the Prehistoric Mural. Arrival at Santo Tomas Cave, and distribution of the participants in groups of 10 (1 tour guide specialized in speleology by and 2 guides from Interchange). The walk lasts 2hrs and allows people to receive information about the geology of the region. Helmets and lamps arranged for everybody.
After the excursions all participants meet at Los Jazmines Hotel for a welcome drink served next to the swimming pool. Luggage placed in the rooms before they arrive, sometime during the day and room keys placed at two desks by the swimming pool.
Meeting in the lobby of the hotel and departure by American cars for the underground El Palenque Cave. Welcome drink of ‘Ochun’, a cocktail made with honey, rum, orange and lemon, with Afro-Cuban show (rumba, colour costumes, drums, songs and dance). Walk through a passageway in the rock and welcome by the Cimarrones: people representing runaway slaves (access to the restaurant after crossing a Mogotes (limestone rock formation typical of this area).
Dinner, and show that goes from table to table. Enrollment for the activities of the following day. The cars will have been brought around the back of the restaurant to leave without having to walk back through the passageway. Return and overnight at Los Jazmines hotel. Tour Guide service all day.
Day 3: Vinales/Las Terrazas/Havana (120 Kms - 2hrs + 60 Kms – 1hr)
08:00 Breakfast and check-out of hotel. Luggage will be deposited directly in the luggage compartment of the bus and will be transferred from Los Jazmines Hotel to the hotel in Havana. Participants will gather in the hotel lobby area. Two convoys of cars will be made available according to the number of registered persons on every activity (1 convoy for San Juan River and 1 convoy for the Campesino farm. Arrival in Las Terrazas directly at the place where the activities will be held.
The San Juan is a river that crosses the domain of Las Terrazas. It flows out in cascades for about 20 kms, only 10 minutes from the Community Center. In this place two or three cascades flow in a basin some meters deep. Some spaces with benches and tables have been disposed to take advantage of the freshness of the river baths. At the client’s disposal: a bar (non included consumption) and some cabins to change clothes.
The Union Farm, name of the coffee plantation, built in the 19th century by the French colonials and of which only some ruins remain. Today Gustavo Guenaga and his family live on the site. They’ve built a farm there, representative of countryside Cuba. They raise all sorts of animals and cultivate the land to provide for their personal needs. Guenaga loves to grow tropical flowers. Therefore, it is a good opportunity to approach the topic of flora and fauna in Cuba, the different species and their practical uses in the everyday life, most are not only used for ornamental purposes. Lunch in the open air in San Juan River, or in the Campesino farm of grilled pork. Ten people from the local
community will join the customers for this meal. During the meal, there will be a musical group playing for them.
After lunch, people will be taken to the village square by bus where there will be a show of Las Terrazas: Dance and songs interpreted by the children of the community, and theatrical presentation on the square of the village, as well as, musical presentation of a traditional quartet. The villagers ask the customers to come on the dance floor. Exhibition of
the craftsmen of the village and demonstration of their know-how of painting, recycling of paper, fabric making and carpentry. Guided visits in the village to discover the daily life of the Cuban people (ration books and grocery store). Presentation of cock matches by their trainers with explanations of this tradition… but, no cock fight!.
Departure toward Havana. Arrival at the hotel in Havana. Welcome drink around the swimming pool to give room keys and sign the hotel cards. Luggage will be deposited in the rooms before people arrive. Departure by car for dinner. Dinner and cabaret at Habana Café: Reservation of a private space, by the stage. The return transfers toward the hotel will be made by taxicab on demand, so that every participant benefits from the evening as much as they would like. Overnight at hotel. Tour Guide service all day.
Day 4: Havana/Varadero (145 Kms, 2 1/2hrs)
08:30: Breakfast and check-out of hotel. Luggage deposited directly in the bus and transferred from Havana to the hotel in Varadero. Departure in Coco taxis (sort of motor-driven round shaped yellow vehicle of 2 or 3 seats). Circuit from the hotel to the historic center of Colonial Havana, passing by Central Havana, separation of the convoys to follow 2 circuits that occasionally come together in the alleys of Havana. Arrival of the Coco taxis at two different areas of colonial Havana.
Visit of colonial Havana on foot and by horse-drawn carriages. Visit to the Rum Museum with tasting. Departure by American cars to El Morro fortress, facing the Bay of Havana. Lunch on the spot at the Divina Pastora Restaurant. Dining on the terrace facing the bay and enjoy the performance of a musical group. Departure for Varadero. Arrival at
the hotel and welcome cocktail in the lobby area. The American cars are returned. Luggage transferred to the hotel and placed in the rooms sometime during the day before the people arrive. Appetizer at the swimming pool bar and welcome by musicians with private dinner. Salsa demonstration during the dinner and involvement of participants at will. Overnight at the hotel. Tour Guide service all day.
Day 5: Varadero
Breakfast and departure towards 08:00 for a 4X4 (Suzuki Vitara) rally through the Cuban countryside. The slaves route is a one day event in the Valley of Guamacaro (120 to 135 km). One of the participants drives. Visit of the ruins of a former sugar mill and French coffee plantation. Typical lunch at a farm. The food items proposed come from the vegetables cultivated and the animals raised there. Visit a Cuban camping site very close to the Canimar River. Possibility to fish, to ride on horseback, or simply enjoy the hammocks hanging in the shade of the trees.
Return to the hotel toward 16:00. Dinner at the hotel in a private area. Visit to the Mambo Club, the disco in vogue in Varadero. Return transfer on request of the participants to the hotel. Tour Guide service all day.
Day 6: Varadero/Havana (150 Kms – 2 ½ )
Breakfast and departure toward the Marina in Canadian buses that served as school transportation in Canada. Crucero del Sol catamaran sailing cruise: sailing to Cayo Blanco. Stop on the way to swim with dolphins and then onto the snorkeling site. Lunch will be served upon arrival in Cayo Blanco (grilled lobster). Free time to take advantage
of the beach. Return toward the Marina and take buses to return to the hotel. Some rooms will be at the client’s disposal to change clothes and a small buffet will be served. Departure in an air-conditioned tour bus to Havana International Airport for the outbound flight. Assistance through airport formalities. Tour Guide service.
